All Saints' Primary School, Cockermouth

What's been happening at All Saints' this week? In Nursery, this week our focus has been on our vision. The Nursery focus is 'Saints.' We began by looking at 'What is a Saint?' Then, we looked at Christian saints and coloured them in. We accompanied this with learning the song, 'Oh When The Saints' Go Marching In.' Finally, we joined a whole school assembly, which looked at the work each year group had done. Well done Nursery! In Reception, the class had another lovely week. Our role play area is now set up as a birthday party. We have played Musical Chairs and Pin The Tail On The Pig. For our vision week, the children considered the meaning of, "Since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses." We looked at St Francis of Assisi. We discussed qualities of a saint and created freeze frames on how we can be kind to our friends, just like a saint is kind. Francis was also very kind to animals. We had a lovely surprise visitor, Mrs Lightfoot's dog Kobe! The children played a game where they had to pick items and say how that item could help look after and be kind to Kobe. Thank you Kobe for coming into Reception class. We loved having you! Later in the week, another lovely surprise story teller came to read, "Jack And The Flumflum Tree." To finish the week and to finish our work on the Three Little Pigs story, we made shortbread biscuits and iced them with Mrs Lightfoot to make them look like pigs. We can't wait to see what we get up to next week! In Year 1, the children came to school dressed in their smart clothes to take part in a tea party for the King. This formed part of our study on our capital city, London. In Forest school this week, the children took part in den building and learnt how to use a sheath knife safely. The Forest looked and felt very different on a frosty morning with lots of new experiences. For our whole school "Vision Week," the children completed work around the statement, "...let us throw off everything that hinders." In Year 2, the class have been writing stories based on our own superheroes. The children have been using drama techniques to develop ideas about how they move to help with vocabulary. We also manipulated digital photos of our freeze frames to put them into more suitable settings. For our whole school "Vision Week," the children completed work around the statement, "...and let us run with perseverance." In Year 3 and Year 4, the class participated in the whole school "Vision Week," where the children have completed work around our school's vision statement. The classes considered the meaning of, "...the race marked out for us." The children have thought about things they do well at home or at school and also their aspirations for the future. In Year 5, the class participated in the whole school "Vision Week," where the children have completed work around our school's vision statement. Alongside Year 6, the classes considered the meaning of, "...fixing our eyes on Jesus." The children have thought about the words we use at the beginning of every collective worship and their significance in reminding us that God is always present. They also thought about how we can behave in the ways that Jesus taught us, especially in the ways that our school serves our local community. In Year 6, the class have finished their "layered image" project, exploring identity. They have appraised the work of Mike Barrett and then attempted to mimic his artistic style to produce their own artwork. They used a mixture of sketching, shading, cutting and sticking, collage and printing to produce highly effective final pieces. The class have really enjoyed this topic. Well done Year 6!
